*Today is World Hypertension Day.*

The event is celebrated every May 17 and is focused on creating awareness about Hypertension and its symptoms.

The theme for 2022 World Hypertension Day is ‘Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control it, Live Longer'.

The theme focuses to combat low awareness rates worldwide, especially in low to middle-income areas with accurate blood pressure measurement methods.

Hypertension or high blood pressure occurs when the blood pressure rises to an unhealthy level of 140/90. It is considered to have touched a dangerous level when the blood pressure measurement goes over 180/120.

This is caused by * Being Overweight or obese.

* Mental Stress.

* Smoking.

* Diabetes.

* High Salt intake.

* High Fat Diet.

* Sleep apnea.

* Excess alcohol intake.

* Genetics.

* Physical Inactivity.

* Adrenalin and thyroid disorder.

* Psoriasis.

* Poor eating habits etc.

Prolonged hypertension also puts a person at a higher risk of several medical conditions like chronic kidney disease, stroke, heart failure and others.

We must therefore do more to avoid this deadly ailment by;

* Eating fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

* Eating low-fat dairy products, lean meats, fish, and nuts.

* Avoid/limit intake of foods that are high in saturated fats, such as processed foods, full-fat dairy products, and fatty meats.

* Avoid Smoking.

* Regular Exercise.

* Losing excessive weight.

* Taking less alcohol. * Avoiding stress.

We @ CFANJ International will continue to do our bit to raise awareness on the dangers of the High Blood Pressure and to provide medical assistance through our Free Medical Outreaches.

Remember, Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control it, Live Longer.
